Setup for this was simple, removing the bloatware and advertising was the most painful part. Including Win7 updates it probably took an hour, and then another hour to download and install non-windows programs (firefox, openoffice, etc). The trial of office is useful for about ten minutes, you can only run an Office program 25 times before the trial expires and each time you open a program it questions if you want to upgrade to a full version.
Performance-wise, it handles things pretty well; I can run WoW on medium-high settings and get 60fps while running trillian, browsing firefox, and watching a movie in VLC off an external drive or from a DVD. As always, windows itself takes up a ridiculous amount of memory just to run, but if that’s a huge concern for you you probably already know how to minimize the usage.
Aesthetically if you despise fingerprints or grease, prepare yourself for a lifetime of buffing and buffing and buffing. The trim and touch pad are both mirror end silver and the case is high gloss black.
This does come with an onboard mic and webcam. The mic isn’t the best quality but it works. The onboard speakers are also not fantastic, and even at full blast I have difficulty hearing things playing in WMP or the DVD program. Another annoying feature is the volume control show, which you can not easily turn off (and disabling may disable your volume controls completely). If you adjust the volume while in full screen mode playing a game, it will minimize your game or video to show the volume control slider. One other quirk is the wireless connection button, which is also on the touch panel at the top of the keyboard. It is incredibly simple to turn on/off while cleaning your computer.
The keyboard action is fine, not overly stiff, and the sensitivity is set properly so it doesn’t easily repeat keystrokes. The full size keys and numpad are nice; but the arrow keys are incredibly (and oddly) somewhat small – less than half the size of any other key on the keyboard. Simple to get used to, but noticeable.
AC adapter plug on the right, DVD drive on the right, primary vent on the left, some additional venting it feels like on the back and through the keyboard, sd slot on the left, USB ports both sides, external mic and headphone jacks of course on the front.

This was a beauty of a sale @ Amazon. I had been pricing these & when the sale started 1st week of Nov. , I jumped on this offer. About my HP (and the energizer bunny) Windows finally did it right; they place together a “beaut” in Windows 7. My grandchildren (ages 10 & 7) have been exposed to Vista, learned on their own w/ a bit of cueing from papa. I buy this laptop as “backup” in case they come & visit together, they won’t argue “I get the computer”. Well they each got on to this Laptop w/ WINDOWS 7 and varoom; they both are surfing like pros without ANY help from papa: both of them.I would have rated it a 5 but the battery life is incorrect as advertised. To get 4.5 hrs. out of it ,you would need TWO BATTERIES!! I am lucky to get 1.5-2 hrs. I don’t know if it’s defective or used leaving a poor memory in it? (IT’S HAPPENED BEFORE )At $119.00 a piece for a new battery, forget it, I can’t afford to buy another one and I am not going through the hassle of sending this laptop back just for a battery. New buyers, BE AWARE: I seriously believe that a used battery is
